Legal Experience
William’s practice focuses on complex commercial disputes and litigation, including construction, corporate and partnership disputes, environmental/regulatory, personal injury, professional liability, and insurance coverage and bad faith.
William employs a wealth of hard-earned experience to help his clients solve problems. Whether it be a catastrophic injury or a dispute over a corporate transaction gone awry, William helps his clients understand their legal rights and risks in often difficult and complex circumstances and relentlessly fights to protect them, including through court or arbitration if necessary. He enjoys the opportunities for creativity and the relationships his practice provides.
Prior to joining Miller Monroe Holton & Plyler, William spent years as regional managing partner of a national law firm handling complex cases for large insurers and large and small companies and individuals in arbitrations and in state and federal court. Always practicing in North Carolina since being admitted in 2008, William is also admitted to practice in South Carolina (2020) and has been involved in cases from Alaska and California to Virginia and Delaware, and many jurisdictions between. A seasoned trial lawyer, William has also handled a number of appeals, arguing before both the North Carolina Court of Appeals and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. William’s prior practice was split between directly handling first-party and third-party insurance coverage matters and as assigned defense counsel to individual and corporate insured. All of this experience gives William the insight to help find solutions to legal (and practical) problems.
William attended college at the University of Virginia, graduating in 2002 with a B.A. in Mathematics and Economics, and a minor in Religious Studies. William graduated in 2008 from Wake Forest University School of Law and was admitted to practice law in North Carolina in 2008.
