John W. Holton

Legal Experience

John’s legal practice focuses on two primary areas: (1) helping individuals who have suffered from serious personal injuries and (2) helping companies resolve business disputes. While John loves being a litigator and enjoys the thrill of being in court, he appreciates that great results can also come outside of court. He strives to align his skills and experience with each client’s needs to achieve positive outcomes.

In his personal injury and wrongful death practice, John frequently represents people injured due to defective products, medical mistakes, and unsafe premises. Additionally, John helps individuals who have been taken advantage of by the unfair actions of large corporations. Over the course of his career, he has recovered millions of dollars for clients in personal injury matters.

In his business and commercial litigation practice, John has represented companies with claims arising from intra-corporate disputes, unfair and deceptive trade practices, fraud, misappropriation of trade secrets, and breach of contract. John appears frequently before the North Carolina Business Court and has been involved in several cases pertaining to novel issues in North Carolina jurisprudence.

Prior to joining Miller Monroe & Plyler, John spent years practicing as a defense attorney where he represented Fortune 500 companies, large insurers, and hospital systems. John is able to leverage his experience working for those large organizations to effectively represent the less powerful. John comes from a family of lawyers, and the impact the legal system can have on its citizens—positive and negative—was impressed upon him from an early age.

John is licensed to practice in state and federal courts throughout North and South Carolina. He is a member of the Federal Bar Association, North Carolina Bar Association, South Carolina Bar Association, Wake County Bar Association, and the North Carolina Advocates for Justice.
