RALEIGH — July 11, 2017 — Miller Monroe PLLC is pleased to announce that William W. Plyler has joined the firm’s litigation practice effective July 1, 2017 forming the law firm of Miller Monroe & Plyler.  William is a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill (A.B. ’78) and the UNC School of Law (J.D. ’82).  After graduating from law school, William advocated for victims of crime as an assistant district attorney in Wake County.  For the last 32 years, he has advocated for victims of negligence in civil cases involving motor vehicle negligence, wrongful death, and products liability.  William’s notable cases range from representing the family of one of the deadliest residential fires in the state’s history to representing the families of victims who have lost their lives to drunk drivers.

William is listed in Best Lawyers in America, a widely regarded guide for legal excellence.  He is also a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), a merit based organization of trial attorneys requiring extensive jury trial experience.  William has been selected for inclusion in the list of “Super Lawyers” in the field of personal injury since 2013.  He is also rated “AV” by Martindale-Hubbell, which is the highest rating for qualifications and ethical standards.

“In terms of his legal acumen, quality of character, and reputation in the community, William Plyler is the gold standard.  Since we opened our doors in 2009, he has served as a key advisor and mentor to our team.  He has co-counseled cases with us and helped us prepare for important hearings and trials.  We are incredibly honored to have him formally join our firm,” stated Jason Miller, Partner, Miller Monroe & Plyler.

“Extensive in-court litigation experience is getting increasingly uncommon in today’s legal world.  William brings 35+ years of courtroom experience to Miller Monroe & Plyler, which will allow us to elevate the quality of representation we can provide to our business clients and individuals alike,” Miller added.

William has served as president of the Wake County Bar Association. He has also served as president of the Tenth Judicial District Bar and is a member of the Fourth Circuit Judicial Conference and an inaugural member of the Susie Sharp Inn of Court.  He currently serves on the board of directors, the Professionalism Award Committee, the By Laws Committee, and the Athletics Committee of the bar.

“For William to join our team is a tremendous honor.  Few lawyers in the state are as well respected and well liked as William,” added Jeff Monroe, Partner.  “I look forward to working alongside my father-in-law in counseling clients and advocating for them in the courtroom.”

William and his wife, Sally, have been married 37 years and have a daughter (who is married to partner Jeff Monroe), two sons, and two grandsons.  They also have a grandson who is deceased.  When he is not working, William enjoys reading, playing tennis and basketball, and playing with his grandsons.

With Miller Monroe & Plyler, William will continue to focus his practice on fighting for the victims of negligence in civil cases, but he will also lend his advocacy skills in the areas of commercial litigation, construction law, and estate litigation.

Founded in 2009, Miller Monroe & Plyler is a civil litigation firm serving corporations, small businesses, and individuals in the Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill areas, and throughout the State of North Carolina.  The firm’s primary practice areas include commercial litigation, construction litigation, bankruptcy, estate litigation, personal injury and wrongful death, and general civil litigation matters.
